Speech-language pathology is an integrated part of the program here at Whittier! We use a collaborative model to work with students, parents and teachers. The speech-language department offers a variety of supports to the wide range of students at Whittier School. The speech-language pathologists (SLPs) individualize therapy to help improve students' communication at their unique level. Goals may be related to language development, phonology/articulation, stuttering, voice and/or social language. For some students this means using signs, picture symbols or assistive technology to support functional communication. Other students can be working on social thinking to help them navigate the teenage social world. Our speech-language pathologists use video modeling, visual supports and other technology to support students.
